The collection consists of five sub-series as follows: Correspondence, Field Correspondence, Subject Files, Publications, and Lutheran World Federation (LWF). The Correspondence sub-series contains letters filed by name or subject, except for the first folder which was general. It also includes copies of circular letters and enclosures used from 1961-1969. Field Correspondence is divided according to the country of correspondence. Again, the first folder is a general one, containing cover letters sent to all fields. Subject files cover such varied areas as relationships to other mission and church bodies, preparation for the 1962 merger, mission-related conferences, and personnel matters. Of note, this sub-series contains a copy of the constitution and by-laws of the Board of World Missions. Publications include news releases, report booklets, and promotional brochures. The Lutheran World Federation sub-series indicates the countries in which the ULCA cooperated with other church bodies. More than half of the LWF files are related to the work of the LWF Broadcasting Service. Erb served on the board of the LWF Broadcasting Service by virtue of his direction of the BWM. Each church body which contributed substantially to the Broadcasting Service was granted a position on the board. Files are arranged alphabetically within sub-series.
